Nailed It - Easy Canvas Picture

Okay, here we go, for a week of crafts (and here's hoping I don't have any major fails...).

I've been looking for different ways to add art to the house in easy and cheap ways. I did this one a little while ago, on a whim.

It was super easy and I liked how it looked, I figured I would do another one, and this time I would actually document it. But seriously, this is so easy, a tutorial is kind of unnecessary.

So, here's what you need:

canvas frame paint

adhesives

  • Blank canvas (I got mine from Michaels, but you can get them from Hobby Lobby, JoAnn's, and pretty much any art store)
  • Wooden frame (again from Michaels - these ones come in a two pack)
  • Two different paint colors
  • Brush (to apply the paint)
  • Adhesive of some sort (I used glue dots, but you could use craft glue, hot glue gun, craft glue....you get the idea)
  • And a photo
And this takes all of three steps.

One: paint the canvas and the wooden frame in the colors that you want (I went with purple and white, but you could pretty much go anyway you want with the colors).

Two: Once both are dry, attach the wooden frame to the canvas with your choice of adhesive, after you have placed your picture on the canvas (you can use adhesive to hold it in place, I didn't, but if you want that little extra bit of security go for it).

Three: Hang it up.

See, piece of cake.

So beautiful readers, what do you think, did I nail this one?

Till next time,

Be kind to everyone

I made a promise to myself, when Little P was born, that I would try, (really, really, really try) to not let stupid people annoy me.

And for the most part I succeed.

But when it comes to drivers in Las Vegas, it's very hard. In fact, some days it's almost impossible to turn a blind eye to the idiots driving around me.

No turn signals, merging onto the highway at 40mph, cutting off people in an effort to get to the exit (only to realize, heck, that's not the exit I want), driving 10 miles below the speed limit on a one lane road... the list goes on.

And yes, I know it's not just in Vegas, it's everywhere. But for some reason it seems more pronounced here in the desert.

M and I have a few theories on that, none of which are scientifically provable (although Vegas has been ranked in the top 5 cities for bad drivers), but all the theories in the world don't amount to squat if you the people around you still act like they got their driver’s license out of a cereal box.

I have found that on the days when it's really hard to take the higher road (so to speak), I start saying this little mantra -
be kind to everyone
Now, I'm not saying that this is the case for every person out there, some people really are just idiots, but I've found that since I have been doing this, the traffic gods have smiled on me.

On those days when I feel like I'm having my patience truly tested, and I revert to my little mantra, I automatically seem to have an easier commute, get all green lights, and even have no one parked in what I consider to be my spot at work. On those days when I lose it, I get nothing but red lights, tend to have more idiots in front of me, and find someone else has taken my spot to park.

The cynic in me thinks it's just coincidence, but the rest of me thinks that what goes around really does come around, and maybe, just maybe, by keeping a positive attitude, I'm making positive things happen.

What do you think? Does it pay to take the higher road and let the universe sorts things out, or is it a load of old cows dung?

Till next time,

K

Sweet lullaby

Ever since Little P was a baby, I've sung 'Hush Little Baby' to her. I've sung it to calm her down when she's upset, to help her go back to sleep after a bad dream, and pretty much anytime she's asked me to.

Lately, she's taken to singing it herself - to her 'babies'.

Which is really cute, except for the teeny, tiny little fact that she sings it a tad bit differently than I do. And I don't just mean in the 'making up words to replace the ones I don't know' kind of way. I mean she sings it differently.

Instead of being soft and sweet and soothing, along the lines of something that would help a little one to go to sleep, the way she sings it, it's more like the chorus of a song from a Swedish death metal band (cause you know how hard core those Swedes are when it comes to their heavy metal) - played at the highest volume possible.

I sing it like this (in hushed tones):

'Hush little baby, don't say a word...'

Little P sings it like this (remember, death metal):

'HUSH LITTLE BABY, DON'T SAY A WORD...'

It would be really funny if it wasn't so disturbing (and I just know you are picturing my little girl all ‘metaled’ up and head banging now aren’t you?).

This is actually what she looks like when she’s singing it:

All peaceful and sweet, right? That picture is totally misleading (she’s actually breaking glass with the volume that she’s singing at).

I really shouldn't be complaining. She could be singing 'Rock a Bye Baby' in that tone.

Now THAT would be scary.

Till next time – you might want to keep those noise cancelling headphones handy. It’s probably gonna get loud in here.

Bloggerific Scavenger Hunt

I've had the good fortune to discover a really great group of fellow bloggers here in the desert, and to encourage each other to post regularly, and to keep blogging fun (because it can so easily start to feel like work), we decided to launch a fun and easy link party. It's been dubbed our great and fantastic 'bloggerific scavenger hunt', which essentially breaks down to two elements:

  1. We get a theme each week and have that week to take photos of a selection of the items listed.
  2. At the end of the week, we post them up and see what everyone's takes were on the items to find.

Pretty easy huh?

And even thought it's only May, here in Sin City it already feels like summer, hence the theme for the first ever scavenger hunt - Summer. And here are the items we needed to try and find:

  • Sunglasses
  • Beach Ball
  • Iced Tea
  • Watermelon
  • Flip Flops
  • Sunscreen
  • Pool
  • BBQ
  • Beach Towel
  • Ice Cream
And the best part, we didn't have to get a picture of all of them, just five. Piece of cake huh?

I actually thought I had to work for a couple of them, but it turned out, after running around to get the last couple that I wanted, I already had seven (I know, 'over-achiever'). So I just picked the ones that I really liked.

Without further ado, here are my favorite five -

Beach towels, sunglasses, flip flops

Ice cream, beach ball

So there you have it - the first official 'Bloggerific Scavenger Hunt', Las Vegas style. If you want to play, you have till next weekend to find the items and post them.

Just go check out my friend Cat's site and link it up there.

Happy hunting.
